METRO EXPRESS Airport Way Corridor

The new Route 44 Metro Express Airport Way Corridor extends RTD’s existing BRT service south to the Stockton Airport from downtown Stockton. This new BRT route provides a convenient and rapid bus service that is a viable alternative to driving. The service meets the mobility needs of the community by providing a more frequent, reliable, and rapid service to key locations along the corridor.

The corridor includes a concentration of places of employment, educational institutions, health clinics, governmental agencies, utility offices, San Joaquin County Superior Court, San Joaquin County Public Library, human services, and entertainment venues. In addition, the new service will improve the quality of life, improve air quality, decrease traffic congestion, and assist in the development of a strong, integrated, and diverse economy.

What is Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)?

- Buses will arrive every 10 minutes during peak hours (every 30 minutes during off-peak hours)
Improved shelters and boarding areas
Fare Vending Machines enable the use of pre-paid fares, which speed passenger boarding
Seamless Metro Express connections at the DTC
- Passengers can ride all the way from the Airport to the Hammer Triangle by connecting to Route 40 at the Downtown Transit Center
- Route 40 will also operate every 10 minutes during peak hours and will be realigned to serve the Miracle Mile

Metro Express passengers are required to have a valid, pre-paid RTD bus pass or ticket to ride.  Fare Vending Machines, located at Metro Express stops and the Downtown Transit Center (DTC), are available for passengers to purchase single ride, 10 ride, 1-day, and 31-day unlimited ride passes before boarding.  Metro Express uses the same fare structure and passes as RTD's regular fixed routes, and passes issued by the Fare Vending Machines can be used on any of RTD's regular fixed routes.
